I had a fantastic time at CONduit and met a lot of fans, new and old, and sat on some very interesting panels. The publishing panel I was on was particularly enlightening, but it proved to me that no two people get into the world of publishing the same way. As many of you know, I'm doing many more panels at Origins this week, and I wanted to drop my schedule on you. The topics always lead to fascinating discussions and I hope to see plenty of you there. Thursday: 1:00 PM: Publishing 101 - What’s hot and what’s not in fiction? Panelists look at publishing trends, predict where the market is going, dish out some publishing news and statistics, and offer suggestions on where to send your manuscripts. Friday: 2:00 PM: The Digital Landscape - Take the do-it-yourself approach and publish your own fiction. The authors on this panel have done just that. They’ll talk about software, formatting, markets, and more. 4:00 PM: Write What You Don't Know - We remember English teacher...

The first print run of Operation: Montauk has arrived and the pre-orders will be shipping out over the weekend. ( It's not too late to still pre-order .) From Friday, May 25 through Sunday the 27 , I'll have a table at CONduit in Salt Lake City. It's being held at the Radisson downtown on 215 S. West Temple. The special guest is Tim Russ, who played Tuvok on Star Trek Voyager. There comes a time in the life of every project where it has to just be done. You've worked diligently and consistently toward your deadline, and then suddenly that deadline is tomorrow and you're still looking at 20 or 30 hours worth of work left to do at the bare minimum. And there's also a birthday party scheduled for your son. And other work obligations. I haven't pulled an all-nighter since I working on Killer at Large . Not because I haven't had deadlines in that time, it's just that I think I've learned how to be fairly effective with my time management skills. But sometimes family duties and work just pile up over the top and you can't be as effective as you'd like with your writing. Over the weekend, that's exactly what happened. Operation: Montauk's final proof check and polish was due on Sunday morning. I worked all day Saturday trying to get it done and Sunday came round and it still wasn't complete. I received the first proofs of Operation: Montauk yesterday, as well as two new reviews of the book. I can't tell you how good the books look. Lucas and Blain knocked this cover out of the park. I can't wait for you all to get your hands on it. There are two people who have got their hands on it, though, and they've written reviews. The first, is Troll in the Corner's Glenn "Naked Hobo" Buettner. After a hilarious after-life exchange between Michael Crichton and H.G. Wells, Buettner wrote a review of the book you really just need to read. Here's an excerpt: I think the most refreshing thing about this book though is that it tells a great story with interesting characters without the need for twenty seven encyclopedic volumes of epic insanity. As many of you know, I'll be premiering Operation: Montauk at the Origins Game Fair . I'm a guest in The Library and will be on all sorts of panels about writing. But I have yet to book an event here at home in Salt Lake City. That changed yesterday, actually, and I am pleased to announce that my very first reading and signing in my hometown will be at The King's English . The event is June 8, 2012 and starts at 7:00 pm . There will be a reading, light refreshments will be served, and I will then be signing copies of the new book. The King's English is located at 1511 South 1500 East in Salt Lake City. Lucas Ackley from Ackley Design  has been responsible for every single one of my print covers. For Operation: Montauk, he took Blain Hefner's incredible painting and turned it into an amazing vintage book cover, front and back. While this looks fantastic, I have even better news.
